In 2004 Radio Dialogue realised the importance of the community’s involvement in the planning and production of programmes. With the help of the Bulawayo City Council, the Radio Dialogue ward committees were formed, simulating the 29 council wards within the city’s geographical boundary.
At the beginning of the year 2004,Radio Dialogue and each of the councilors within the 29 wards of Bulawayo identified an active individual in their community as a radio Dialogue advocacy representative:these individuals were in turn asked to select six more individuals so as to form a committee, the committees are known as Radio Dialogue Ward Committees.
Their immediate task was to mobilise residents within their respective wards to participate in the campaign towards the realisation of a community radio station in Bulawayo as well as recruit them as members of Radio Dialogue so that they could also be eligible to be voted into the committee after a two year term of office. Since their inception the ward committees have had several training workshops on effective advocacy skills, reporting, planning and monitoring and evaluation.
Radio Dialogue has managed to establish its ward committees in 24 of the 29 council wards.
